No matter where we live, we all deserve to have a safe, stable and affordable home.
There are over 60,000 renters living in Alameda County's unincorporated Eden Area, including Ashland, Castlewood, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Happy Valley, Hayward Acres, Hillcrest Knolls, San Lorenzo, and Sunol. Despite their mass, these Alameda County residents have no mayor, no city council, and no local tenant protections.
For the past four years, tenants in the Eden Area have fought for the same basic tenant protections that their neighbors have elsewhere in Alameda County.
On December 20, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors passed "phase one" of tenant protections for the unincorporated areas — including a fair chance ordinance, just cause for eviction protections, and a rental registry. In order for these protections to go into effect, we need to win one more vote.
Vulnerable low income tenants in the Eden Area cannot wait! Please join us in writing a letter to the Board of Supervisors today.
